Palladium vs platinum
The catalyst pair, side by side.
Palladium and platinum both go into catalytic converters, and carmakers switch between them as the spread moves. That makes the pair one of the most-watched relationships in the metals market.

What's included
Everything you need to build with palladium.
- 01Second-by-second spot
- XPD is polled every second. Every current plan reads the newest tick; only the legacy Lite plan reads a snapshot up to 10 minutes old.
- 02Bid and ask on every call
- Every response carries the latest rate plus bid and ask, so buy and sell quotes come from one call.
- 03Troy ounce, gram or tola
- Add include=gram or include=tola to get the per-unit price next to the troy-ounce rate.
- 04150+ currencies
- Add quote=EUR, quote=JPY or any supported currency and palladium comes back already converted.
- 05History back to 1990
- Daily palladium history through the historical, time-series and fluctuation endpoints, with the same symbol and key.
- 06All four precious metals
- The same endpoint serves XAU, XAG and XPT, so one integration prices gold, silver, platinum and palladium.
XPD
What XPD means
XPD is the ISO 4217 code for one troy ounce of palladium. Request /v3/rates/latest/XPD and you get the spot price of one troy ounce (31.1035 grams) in US dollars, with bid and ask.
If your code still sends the old symbol PA to /rates/latest, it keeps working and is answered with the XPD rate. New integrations should use XPD.
Units
Palladium price per gram and per tola
The base rate, bid and ask are always per troy ounce. Add a unit and the API adds one field beside them:
include=gram— price per gram (troy ounce ÷ 31.1035).include=tola— price per tola (troy ounce ÷ 2.66667).
Combine it with quote to get palladium per gram in your local currency in a single request.
Spot vs benchmarks
Spot palladium, NYMEX futures and the LBMA price
XPD is a spot price that updates continuously through the trading day. It is a derived market price, not an official benchmark.
NYMEX palladium futures trade in 100-troy-ounce contracts of at least 99.95% purity, for delivery in a future month.
The LBMA Palladium Price is set by auction twice a day, straight after the platinum auctions at 9:45 and 14:00 London time, and is run by ICE Benchmark Administration since 1 July 2026. Contracts that reference the fix should use it; apps that need a live price use spot.
Market
What moves the palladium price
Two countries dominate supply. In 2025 Russia mined about 44% of the world's palladium and South Africa about 37% (USGS), so sanctions, export rules and mine news from either can move the price sharply.
Most palladium goes into catalytic converters, especially for petrol cars, so car sales, emissions rules and the shift to electric vehicles all feed into demand. Platinum can replace some palladium in converters, which is why the two are often tracked together — see the platinum to palladium ratio.
Use cases
What developers build with palladium prices
- 01
Catalytic converter valuation
Recycling and scrap platforms value converters from their palladium, platinum and rhodium content, and re-price as the metals move.
- 02
Bullion and dealer sites
Show live palladium per ounce or per gram with bid and ask, in the customer's currency.
- 03
Automotive and supply-chain costing
Feed palladium into cost models for parts and components that use it, with history back to 1990 for budgeting.
- 04
Portfolio trackers and alerts
Track palladium next to the other precious metals and alert when it crosses a level, on the per-second feed on paid plans.

01
What does XPD mean?
XPD is the ISO 4217 code for one troy ounce of palladium. The API's XPD rate is the spot price of one troy ounce (31.1035 grams), in US dollars unless you request another currency.
02
How often is the palladium price updated?
XPD is polled every second. On every current plan, from Basic to Enterprise, each request returns the newest price; only on the legacy Lite plan can it be up to 10 minutes old.
03
Can I get the palladium price per gram?
Yes. Add include=gram and the response adds a gram field (troy ounce ÷ 31.1035) next to the troy-ounce rate. include=tola works the same way.
04
Does the API return bid and ask for palladium?
Yes. Every XPD response includes the latest rate plus bid and ask.
05
Is this the LBMA palladium price?
No. XPD is a continuous spot price. The LBMA Palladium Price is an auction benchmark set twice a day in London and administered by ICE Benchmark Administration.
06
Can I get palladium prices in other currencies?
Yes. On the Standard plan or above, add the quote parameter — for example quote=EUR — and the price is converted for you. More than 150 currencies are supported.
07
How far back does palladium price history go?
Daily palladium history goes back to 1990 through the historical, time-series and fluctuation endpoints.
08
Is there a free palladium price API?
You can start with an unlimited free trial for integrations on the Basic plan — no credit card required. Basic returns USD prices; conversion to other currencies starts on the Standard plan.
